Hundreds of ducks die suddenly in Tulungagung

Tulungagung (ANTARA News) - Hundreds of ducks Bendo village, District Gondang, Tulungagung, East Java, died suddenly with symptoms similar to bird flu.
"Ducks are disease-resistant poultry, than birds or poultry. Disease but this one is very violent and deadly many ducks," said Suradi, one of the village residents tell Bendo mysterious plague that attacked livestock Itiknya Tuesday.

She told him, a mysterious plague attacked the duck-Itiknya the last four days. Birds usually live in colonies was originally known to experience symptoms of pain that never happened before, and died in less than an hour later.

Of the 500 ducks were maintained Suradi, within four days is 150 head that died suddenly. The ducks were initially looked limp, his eyes like cataracts taxable, stiff neck and even head up muntir, collapsed and later died suddenly.

"Every duck is attacked, seemed silent and no appetite. Already tried given drugs commonly used for chicken, but can not cure," he added.

Besides himself, continued Suradi, Bendo village there are 20 farmers who have pet duck tail between 300 to 500 individuals per person. But because of this mysterious disease, Suradi estimated one-third of the population dead ducks in his village.

"Not only my ducks, but other farmers also suffered a similar fate. If calculated, probably a third of our ducks have died from a strange disease," he said.  ...Due to this disease the farmers at a disadvantage, because the price of adult ducks ready betelur on the market reached Rp50 thousand per head. 

In Bendo village, there are 20 farmers, including Suradi. They maintain an average between 300 and 500 ducks tail. 

"I've lost at least Rp 7, 5 million. For small farmers like me, it was great," he said.

Despite aside ducks are still healthy, but the strange disease is still contagious. Worse yet, people have not been given the knowledge of the handling of bird flu, so they hold the dead birds are unprotected.

"The important thing is we did not slaughter and eat a sick duck. But if you just hold, we still dare to," he said.

Suradi and owners of other ducks in the village hoping Bendo, no action from the Animal Husbandry Department. At least there is an explanation disease affecting poultry and how to handle these people.

No confirmation from the local animal husbandry department of the phenomenon of the mysterious outbreak suspected bird flu. 

Suradi and other duck farmers claimed to have reported the incident to the local village government to be forwarded to the relevant office to do mitigation and prevention measures.
